Road to Recovery Program

Transportation is the most requested service by patients and families. Allowing a loved one to continue working while we drive the patient to and from treatment can make the difference in meeting monthly obligations. The response from our patients and families is overwhelming. The driver volunteers are constantly amazed at the gratitude of these families. These drivers volunteer their time and auto to transport patients and find the experience very fulfilling. It is this personal one-on-one time that creates such a warm and wonderful relationship between driver and patient. If you are interested in becoming a driver, please click here for information.

Getting treatment in a timely manner equates to a better chance for cure. We know the doctors and nurses are very complimentary and thankful that they can depend on the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund to bring their patients to them.

Through our close relationship with the American Cancer Society (ACS), we are able to utilize their National Patient Service Program and with volunteers from Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund who transport these patients.

If you are interested in becoming a driver volunteer, we would ask you to contact our Road to Recovery coordinator (Neil Howard). You may obtain contact information thru the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund's main number at 706-746-3350.

The requirements are simple to volunteer as a driver. You must have a valid driver's license, have auto liability insurance, and a good driving record. If, in the unlikely event an accident occurs, the ACS will pick up any additional costs above your insurance limits. You must be approved by both organizations which require a simple application.

Finally, as a volunteer driver, you must attend a short educational session to familiarize yourself with all the information to be comfortable transporting patients. These sessions will be held at least twice a year.
